A Vision for Roosevelt Island’s New Neighborhood Fulfilled
Following designation by the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporations (RIOC) through a competitive bid process, Hudson and the Related Companies planned a new neighborhood fulfilling the vision for Southtown that the planners of Roosevelt Island conceived in the 1960s. Upon completion the Riverwalk neighborhood will consist of approximately 2,000 residential units across 9 buildings with 40% of the total units affordable to residents earning less than 148% of AMI.
The joint-venture has developed seven residential buildings as part of a new planned community on Roosevelt Island as well as connecting the northern section of Main Street to the new neighborhood. The 7 completed buildings consist of 1,470 units of rental and condo residential units, including staff housing for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Medical College. The JV also built the Riverwalk Commons, an open space at the center of the Riverwalk buildings surrounded by Riverwalk building ground-floor retail including Starbucks, Duane Reade, and Fuji East.
The final two buildings are in predevelopment.
