A Welcoming and Inspiring Temporary Library for Brooklyn Heights
The Interim Brooklyn Heights Public Library is the award-winning library location for the duration of construction of the permanent new library at the One Clinton development. The library space has been constructed in the social hall of the Church of Our Lady of Lebanon on Remsen Street. The social hall was renovated to maximize light while creating a large shared open reading space as well as private spaces for staff and library visitors. A feature translucent “Bookworm” wall contains bookshelves and a text graphic of Walt Whitman’s poem “Crossing Brooklyn Ferry.” The interim library will remain open until the state-of-the-art permanent location is completed at One Clinton.
With its bright interior and comfortable environment for attending a program, learning a new skill or simply browsing the shelves, the interim Brooklyn Heights Library is as welcoming and inspiring as the neighborhood it serves.— BPL President and CEO Linda E. Johnson
