Building Community in East New York
The Alan Epstein Apartments are the second phase in the Gateway Elton Street community. Named to honor Alan Epstein, an attorney and beacon in affordable housing, the development provides homes to 175 families earning 40-60% of AMI in three buildings. This buildings of this phase are a combination of brick, zinc and metal panels, designed to integrate with the new street and neighborhood that is growing in the Gateway Elton community, yet stand out with its unique and sophisticated architectural features. Like the other two phases of this new community, the buildings are mixed use, with ground floor retail, and were constructed to high energy efficiency standards. The project was funded through a complex array of public and private financing from HDC, HPD, HCR, NYSERDA, the Brooklyn Borough President, Wells Fargo, and Richman Housing Resources.
